This is Modulok.
Mattel He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Modulok
Modulok could kick Will Wright’s ass with one arm and two legs tied behind his back.

That said, I’m still eagerly looking forward to Will Wright’s latest (and I suspect his greatest) game, Spore, after seeing user-created creatures made with the Spore Creature Creator. The creative juices have clearly been flowing because wondrous beasts hitherto unseen have been conceived. There are walking wangs, flying phalluses, dongs with indiscernible means of locomotion … this tremendous diversity is truly a testament to the limitless human capacity for imagination.

The standalone editor is supposed to go on sale today but apparently everyone on the Internet has managed to procure it through fair means (demo disks containing the trial version) or foul. I’m not sure how the editor will be made available legally to folks outside the US but I hope to get it as soon as possible. As software toys go, this looks brilliant.

Update 18/6: the trial version is up now.

Takara Tomy Action Hero Pro: Strike a pose
A rather old-fashioned heroic pose. Captain Marvel and Superman might still be able to pull this off these days but I can’t see someone like Wolverine trying this. Not even if it was Assistant Editor’s Month.

Takara Microman Magneforce Achilles
Released in 2005, the MagneForce Microman figures were some of the finest action figures Takara ever produced. Good looks, superb articulation, Magnemo interchangeability, excellent price … what more could an action figure aficionado ask for?

Seen above is Achilles, the heroic leader of the MagneForce, clad in his Helios armour. This particular specimen hasn’t aged particularly well in the two years since its release. The white plastic on the right fist is now almost greyish, the red paint on the groin has flaked off and the metal seems to have oxidised a little.

Still, it’s a great little figure from a terrific series of Microman figures. Josh Bernard of CollectionDX came up with the term “hand candy” to describe a figure that’s so nice to handle you simply can’t put it down. Achilles, like his MagneForce brethren, is exactly that: hand candy.

Takara Tomy Action Hero Pro: Strike a pose
This is inspired by the Guild Wars Elementalist dance, a remarkable routine that has somehow, improbably, managed to incorporate a full body dry heave.
