Duncan down ‘n’ out
Filed Under Games, Guild Wars | Leave a Comment

One of the objectives I set for myself in Guild Wars this year was to tackle the high-end PvE content in the game and accordingly, I took on the Elite-rated dungeon, Slavers; Exile, and beat it twice with Heroes and henchmen.
(There was, of course, the little matter of the dozen failed attempts but we shall speak little of that. Moving on, moving on …)
Slaver’s Exile is accessed through the quest, The Last Hierophant, which can only be acquired after you beat the main campaign of the Eye of the North expansion. It involves assassinating four sub-bosses in three different dungeons before tackling the boss of the bosses, Duncan the Black.
It’s tough even in Normal Mode and I shudder to think what it might be like in Hard Mode.

The numbers game

From the official Guild Wars site:

That’s a very interesting way of putting it.
Someone who wasn’t paying attention might easily (and entirely understandably) jump to the conclusion there were five million Guild Wars players.
That’s simply not true.

Guild Wars: Legendary Guardian

My Guild Wars Mesmer was proclaimed a Legendary Guardian a few days back. I was surprised to learn a server-wide announcement occurred when I earned the title. Now I’m not someone who needs ego-stroking but there’s something very satisfying about having your character’s name displayed to all and sundry, calling attention to the fact you have achieved something.

Kind of a Big Deal

Joining a guild was one of the targets I had set for myself in Guild Wars this year but I can’t say I spent tremendous thought or effort in scouting around for one to join.
However, I got a guild invite last month from a player whom I helped on two back-to-back missions, and after asking a few questions about the guild focus and prerequisites, and learning the playerbase was comprised mainly of adults, I accepted the invitation on the spot.
One of the reasons I was reluctant to join a guild previously was I frequently take breaks from the game lasting weeks and most guilds kick out members who are inactive. I was assured that that didn’t happen in the guild I joined and this was easily confirmed by looking at the guild list after I joined. The guild leader hadn’t logged on in a week, one officer had been away for a month and one member had not been on for three months. I was further assured that there would be no hard feelings if I should leave for whatever reason.
All things considered, it seemed less a guild with a rigid ruleset and command structure, and more a loose affiliation of friendly, laidback players who by sheer coincidence happen to have the same cape on.

Guild Wars Hard Mode: Elona notes
Filed Under Guild Wars | Leave a Comment
Quick notes for those of you who are keen on acquiring the Guardian of Elona title with Heroes and henchmen.
Nundu Bay
There are corpses available even before the action begins and many more to exploit once the siege gets underway so a minion master will excel here. It’s not appreciably tougher in Hard Mode.
