Head on!

Hasbro Transformers Headmasters Chromedome

A photo of Chromedome, a Hasbro G1 Transformers Headmasters figure from 1987.

The Headmasters were so named because the head of each figure transformed into the principal of an educational institution. No, I’m kidding. The head actually transformed into a smaller action figure which could sit in the cockpit of the Headmaster’s vehicle mode.

Kaiyodo has acknowledged there are reports of the elbow joints cracking but it hasn’t investigated the matter due to the Golden Week holiday. The company urges Japanese owners to check the joints and send in flawed figures for replacement.

Meledyne at arms

Kotobukiya Front Mission 3 Meledyne M1

Another photo of Kotobukiya’s Meledyne M1 figure from the Front Mission 3 series.

Each figure ships with a few weapons and two pairs of hands (gungrip and clenched fists). In a nice touch, the gungrip hands have pegs which allows the guns to be clutched firmly. The figures have standardised ports so the accessories are interchangeable between figures.

I got this figure in 2001 and I regret not getting more from the series. To compound matters, Kotobukiya has chosen to shy away from making action figures so it’s unlikely we’ll see figures as great as this from the company again.
