Hard thunder

Guild Wars: Thunderhead Keep
If one mission can be said to embody everything that’s bad about Guild Wars then Thunderhead Keep must surely be that mission.

It was a major frustration to my first character, the Necromancer, two years ago. I’m not sure how many sessions or how many days I spent stuck there but it was enough to make me wonder if perhaps this Guild Wars thing wasn’t quite working out.

Oh yeah, it’s tough.

It’s tough simply putting a group together for the mission. If you managed to wrangle an invite from a group, chances are your group couldn’t find a monk. If the group managed to find a monk, chances are you couldn’t get some other profession the leader insisted on having.

And once underway, the frustration really mounts.

GW:EN preview review

Guild Wars: GW:EN sneak peek
The Guild Wars Eye of the North Sneak Peek Weekend event ended yesterday. Fans will have to wait till August 31 for the expansion to go live.

Players didn’t get an opportunity to dig too deeply into the PvE storyline during the event as some quests and features were made inaccessible. I would guess we may have only seen about one-third of the first act of this three-act story. That said, there was a lot of gameplay to experience during the 72 hours of the preview event.

My overall impression of GW:EN is that it’s mostly … more of the same. This is hardly surprising since it’s an expansion and this is by no means a bad thing since I’m a big fan of Guild Wars so it’s simply more of what I already like.

Hello, Gwen

Guild Wars: Gwen
Guild Wars: Eye of the North Sneak Peek Weekend commenced yesterday at 3pm. This preview of the expansion is for those who got the Preorder Bonus Pack and the event will end on Monday at 3pm. It’s hard to resist playing as much as possible in order to get the most out of the preview.

My initial enthusiasm was quickly curbed, though, as I spent most of my first two hours downloading files. It ordinarily doesn’t take me that long to snag 70-plus MB on my 1Mbps connection but I was only getting 16KB/s yesterday. Staring at a loading screen for 50 minutes is not a great way to kick things off.
