Guild Wars: To do in 2008

I’m not sure what ArenaNet has planned for 2008 aside from the Guild Wars 2 beta which is due in the second half of next year.

Now, ArenaNet has been very good at keeping to its schedules; the company was founded by three experienced code-crunchers who probably run a tight ship over there so I’m sure the GW2 beta will be out as planned.

The question is: when will GW2 be released?

Ranger and peculiar mini-pet.
The same Ranger was also seen doing a peculiar emote. *looks closely* OMG HAX! She has a string on her bow! /report.

Vizunah Square trouble.
I’m really glad ArenaNet dropped this style of mission. Two teams of players might mean two sets of players with wildly different mission objectives. One team might be a meticulously constructed group striving to earn Master’s while another might be a PUG consisting of low-level players with low-grade armour merely content to complete the mission. Pre-Heroes, this mission was a royal pain in the derriere. I recall being incredibly frustrated trying to get Master’s for my Assassin.

Chibi-style.
Rough pencils but it looks very promising. Favourite.

Oktobertfest 2007 still on.
The original organiser of this fan-organised event quit the game entirely but the event is still on schedule thanks to heroic fans who’ve stepped up to the plate.

My Ascalon.
There’s a germ of a really great idea here. With melancholic music and greater emphasis on the juxtaposition between pre- and post-Searing Ascalon, you’d have a really moving video.

Jora wallpaper.
None the Wiser had never even heard of the game before he saw the concept art in the PC Gamer Ultimate Guild Wars Guide issue but he was so inspired he decided to create this beautiful 1680×1050 wallpaper.

Nani kore?
What the …? What’s my Necro doing in Japan?

Opera: Translation

I surf a lot of Japanese sites but unfortunately, I don’t speak or read much Japanese. I can convincingly scream out “I will defeat you for the sake of justice'” in Japanese but sadly, that has little utility if you’re not a Kamen Rider. If it doesn’t have katakana or furigana, I’m pretty much lost.

I did make an attempt at learning the language but got only as far as my third lesson before realising I would have no chance whatsoever of using it everyday life. And when it comes to languages, if you’re not using it, you’re losing it.

Thus, I rely heavily on online translators when I need to figure out something written in Japanese. Admittedly, these translators aren’t perfect but with a little research, it’s possible to get the gist of the message.
