A photo of Dragreder from Bandai’s R&M1 Kamen Rider Ryuki set.
Dragreder, Kamen Rider Ryuki’s contracted monster, was modelled after an Oriental dragon and specifically, a Japanese dragon since it has three toes on each foot. The figure is an impressive 52cm-long and features 24 joints which allow for some sinuous poses. Unfortunately, the 9 ball joints on the body are prone to popping out making this a frustrating figure to play with and pose.

A photo of a Bandai R&M2 Kamen Rider Knight, one of 13 Kamen Riders from the 2002 Kamen Rider Ryuki series.
It’s one of my favourite Kamen Rider designs despite the absence of most of the traditional Rider suit elements. Bandai translated the design into a fine action figure which is only let down by the fact the toy company used pliable plastic for the sword. You can see how it’s been warped in the photo.

What was going through the director’s mind when he was visualising this scene in episode 44 of Kamen Rider Hibiki, I wonder?
“Hmm, this is a shocking, tragic scene so it really needs some … buttocks.”
